Laundry Closet

Why has it ever been a trend to put laundry in a closet? I understand for many people maybe that's enough...right? However anyone with children and the constant flow of laundry (I can only imagine the horror for large families) can understand what a closet that barely fits the washer and dryer is frustrating to say the least of it.

Anyways a few years ago we got some front loading appliances and as it turns out we can not have closet doors on said closet with front loading appliances. Fine, it isn't really terrible but now my one shelf covered in filth and variety of laundry soap is on display.

I lived with it like that for what felt like decades. Then one day my amazing friends was removing cupboards from their basement kitchen!  We measured them up and they let me steal a few for my laundry closet (I wish you could hear the distaste in my voice when I say that- laundry. closet.). They were an older oak color and texture, and the handles were gold and white, so I pulled back out my handy sprayer and some spray paint and set to work.  Let me just say the hardest part was pulling that one shelf down, can I just say I am not made for demo! Then my awesome friend stopped by and helped me throw these lovelies up, I only put one in upside down once. Promise.

I love the way it cleans it up, no more an array of our indecisiveness of soap, just simple non-intrusive cupboards that now holds all of the everything.  We no longer have drips of soap littering the top of our washer. It's clean and beautiful, at least to me.
Once again we are in the hall with Zero natural light and my phone is only so-so at capturing what is right in front of it (that may be my fault). Anyways, I love it and this project was absolutely free.  I used primer, paint, and mud I already owned.  The amazing donation of the cabinets made this all possible.

Now If you wondered why I did not take the cabinets all the way across this next picture will enlighten you.

Yep, a stupid duct was in the way.  Not going to mess with that, not even a little.  I planned on adding a rod between the wall and cabinet, but it hasn't happened, so I'm just going to call it finished and if the next owners decide to add it, great.
