SO here is our story as close as I can recall anyways ;0) Some might be TMI, so just don't read it if you don't want to know.
On February 21, 2011 at 11:00pm, my waters started to leak. I had just taken a bath so I thought it COULD be from that, but I really kind of knew. So I decided not to worry about it and got into bed. Around 2:30am I got up to go to the restroom (because prego people do that a lot) and on my way back I felt it, so I jumped just in time into my bathtub just in time for the release of a lot more "water" I got cleaned up and went back to bed, I knew that I can wait 12 hours before any worry about infection, and I wasn't feeling any contractions. At 8:00am I call and left my Dr a message that my waters had broken, but I wasn't having contractions, just pelvic pressure (since the waters are no longer cushioning my pelvis from the baby's head). Around 9:00am the nurse called me back and asked me to come into get checked, and then called back a couple minutes later saying Dr. Sorenson would actually rather me go get checked at the hospital. SO we packed up just in case and headed out.
We got to the hospital around 10:00am, I was finally checked somewhere between 10:30 and 11:00am. They did the ph strip and it didn't show that my waters had broken, but I hadn't had any water leak since 2:30am. Then they checked me I was 100% effaced and dilated to a 4! Yay! Then I was saying something or other about not having contractions and she nurse looked at me and said yes you are, you just had a big one even. Then I was like what? Really? That's great, it turns out my contractions only were obvious when I felt the pelvic pressure, who knew? I was so glad, I was really hoping they wouldn't have to start me! We spent the next while talking about baby names, and finally Ryan said I could name him! Grayson it is!! Dr Sorenson came in a couple hours later, she wanted to try and break my waters (since the ph strip was neg) so out came the crochet hook, she couldn't find any (weird) so she pulled out the Ultra sound just to make sure. That is when she showed us the face of our sweet little boys face, wait his face??? That's right he was turned the wrong direction, I was in "back labor". Dr Sorenson could hardly believe I was a patient in back labor because of how calm I was. Oh right and when she checked me (still only 2 hours later) I was dilated to an 8/9! She then told me we should have a baby within the next hour!
At this point my pelvic pressure was getting harder and more contentious, they said this was it the point of no return if I wanted any pain meds, so I asked if they had something that could just take the edge off, only a tiny bit. So they gave me something in my IV, she said she gave me just the smallest amount. It was funny, it made my head fuzzy, but it didn't really reduce the pain. That was fine though it wasn't intolerable, and now I could relax even more. A little while later I guess I was acting like I needed to push, that had Ryan freaked out, he kept trying to make sure I didn't push. I however didn't feel that need yet I just wanted to go potty, he was so worried I would push still, I went potty fine folks, no pushing what so ever! Suddenly a short while later I did need to push, luckily Dr Sorenson was already on her way back! I pushed through one contraction and he was crowning, the Dr told me she was going to do an episiotomy. I said that was fine and so she started to numb me, throught this she kept telling me I can push whenever I need to, then when she was about to make the incision another contraction came and I pushed. My little acrobat flipped over (to face the correct direction) and flipped out at 2:22pm, I don't think the Dr has been so surprised in her life haha. It's really all a blur to me, by Ryan said she was like "holy crap, never mind" kind of reaction. I tore a little, but only one stitch! Woot woot (sadly I tore the wrong direction)!
It wasn't until Friday that Ryan told me Graysons' middle name, I told him he could choose since I chose his first name, I was really hoping for Ryan as his middle name, but Ryan wanted Apollo (no I'm not kidding). He filled out the birth certificate and told me I would find out when the SS card comes. I REALLY wanted to know, but I figured bugging him wouldn't work, so I didn't bug him at all! That drove him nuts! Haha, he finally told me because he was bummed I wasn't bugging him, he thought I didn't care (as if). I was so touched he chose Ryan! I've wanted this name for a long time now.
Oh and I want to mention Ryan was great through the whole labor, he took great care of me, he held my hand and cheered me on, he made sure I had everything I needed. Although he is not looking forward to doing that all again someday, but hey time helps everyone forget right??
So our poor little bud has jaundice, we had bili lights for almost a week, and he hated them almost as much as we did!
